Seed selections that you like, sounds easy right?
Bet I can confuse it for you!
- When choosing your survival garden seeds, saying “yuck I can’t stand spinach” “those green things” and “never catch me eating those” is not a good idea!
- Even though you can totally refuse to eat them, there are others to consider. Your family and their health? Trading those things you can’t stand for some things you need/like?
- Garden seeds/plants/veggies/fruit will become GOLD and valuable exchange items.
- After you survive a crisis/disaster you might even care about getting yourself a little more healthy for the long run. Most of the things you say “Yuck” to now are what can help you get/stay healthy.
- Machinery is going to become obsolete, simply because in a major disaster there will not be parts/fuel to operate it. If you are to weak from a bad diet to dig your own garden, who do you expect to do it for you? They certainly will NOT want your money, money would be worthless.
My suggestions would be to start NOW. Prices of seeds have already started going sky high compared to prior years. We bought the #10 can of heirloom seeds. It has a nice variety and is suppose to have a long shelf life, if NOT opened. Hopefully with careful planning and our own seed saving from our yearly garden, we will never have to open it, but if we do need it, it is there.
To insure that we have seeds for this year and next year, we buy the larger packets, divide them in half, half for this years garden and half to vacuum seal for next years garden. Most seeds will store for a few years IF they are stored correctly. By slowly building up our seed storage each year, we are also keeping them fresher to plant and insuring that we will have some for the next years gardens, should the SHTF between now and then.
Get your seed catalogs, most are free from seed companies, compare the seeds, the amounts, varieties, see what appeals to you and your family.
These catalogs can be your life blood on how to plant, when, soil type, temp. etc… Save them for future reference/trade, they can become as Gold also for someone that has never planted a garden before!
